Despite having to contend with Hult’s unorthodox two-handed backhand, Gawad managed to complete the victory with an 11-5, 11-8, 11-8 scoreline to advance through to the quarter-final where he will meet Chris Simpson.
“I’m really happy to win today in three,” said Gawad.
“It was my first time playing against him and I enjoyed it so much. He is a great player and it was a great match with a great atmosphere in the venue. I was suffering a little bit with his backhand.
“I wasn’t 100 per cent clear how to play him. After the first game I started to play better but I was suffering the whole match, especially in the corners.
“I’ve played Chris Simpson once before and it was a tough match. It’s going to be a tough match tomorrow as well mentally. I have a few hours to rest so hopefully tomorrow will be good.”
