WindyCity Update: Straightforward Serme Into Round 2

France’s Camille Serme got her 2016 Windy City Open campaign off to a straightforward winning start by defeating Egyptian teenager Hania El Hammamy on the all-glass court inside the University Club of Chicago.

Serve controlled the opening game with ease before 15-year-old El Hammamy demonstrated her impressive potential as she tested Serme in a closely contested second game. While she managed to force the game to 9-11 on the scoreline she never looked truly capable of causing the World No.5 any serious trouble and after taking that game it was all one-way traffic as Serme surged into the second round.

“I tried to play fast and I think she maybe got a little tired and that helped me,” said Serme.

“I focused on hitting my marks on the court and I’m pleased with how it went.”
