American number one and World No.7 Amanda Sobhy began her 2016 Windy City Open campaign in typical fashion in Chicago today as she blitzed her way past Egyptian Salma Hany Ibrahim in a 19-minute exhibition of shot-making.
Sobhy reached her first ever PSA World Series tournament final in her home town of New York in January when she lost out at the last hurdle in the Tournament of Champions and she continued to play with vocal home support behind her today as she completely outclassed the young Egyptian.
“Having the home crowd behind me is amazing and it helps so much to give me that extra push no matter where I am in the U.S.A,” said Sobhy.
“I’m not sure why but my length to the back was on form today and hopefully I can keep that momentum going through the week. I made sure I was getting it tight to the back so she couldn’t attack and it’s nice to get off to a 3-0 start and go into the next match knowing I’ll be fresh.”
Amanda Sobhy (USA) bt Salma Hany Ibrahim (EGY) 3-0: 11-2, 11-4, 11-5 (19m)
