Road2Dubai: Gohar Cements Dubai PSA World Series Finals Spot

18-year-old World Junior Champion Nouran Gohar has secured her place in the Dubai PSA World Series Finals after downing Hong Kong’s Annie Au in the second round of the 2016 Allam British Open, the last women’s PSA World Series tournament of the 2015/16 season, yesterday to complete the line-up for the season-ending tournament which takes place May 24-28.

Only the top eight players on the Road To Dubai Standings will take to the court in Dubai with the likes of eight-time World Champion Nicol David, World No.1 Laura Massaro and three-time World Junior Champion Nour El Sherbini in the mix.

A crunch meeting with Au – the only player who could usurp Gohar in the standings – saw the Egyptian dominate from start to finish as she joined the elite group of stars to make what will be her first ever appearance in the iconic tournament.

“I remember watching the World Series Finals in 2012 and dreaming of being there and playing in that tournament,” said Gohar.

“To be among the top eight is an amazing feeling.

“At the beginning of the season when it was announced that the World Series Finals would be in Dubai I knew straight away that I wanted to be there. I’ve been trying to do my best in each tournament but not putting too much pressure on myself either.

“I have really enjoyed this season and playing the World Series tournaments. The Tournament of Champions where I beat Laura (Massaro) and reached the semi-finals was great so I’m really happy I have managed to qualify in the top eight.”

World No.4 Camille Serme, No.6 Omneya Abdel Kawy and No.7 Amanda Sobhy complete the field.
