BritOpen Update: El Sherbini is First Semi-Finalist after Beating Sobhy
#PSAWorldTour
Egypt’s Nour El Sherbini booked her place in the semi-final of the Women’s 2016 Allam British Open with a dominant performance over Amanda Sobhy in the Hull as she continues her quest to win her first title at the prestigious PSA World Series tournament.
The pair’s last meeting saw Sobhy lose out to El Sherbini in the final of January’s J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions and it was the latter who started the better of the pair again as she dropped just four points in a straightforward opening game triumph.

Find out moreSobhy came out with purpose in the second and raced 4-1 ahead before El Sherbini sparked into life, winning six successive points, before continuing on to double her advantage. An unwell Sobhy then dug in her heels and showcased her talent to gain a substantial 8-2 lead. However, El Sherbini’s fight back was relentless and she drew level before overtaking the American on the tie-break to close out an 11-4, 11-7, 14-12 victory.
“I think I have improved a lot, every year I have lost here in either the first or second round,” said El Sherbini who was a beaten finalist in 2012 aged just 16.
“I hope I can compete like this until the end. It’s better when you start the match and you know that you beat your opponent last time. You get more confident.”

El Sherbini will face either the woman who beat her in the showpiece finale four years ago, Malaysian superstar Nicol David, or compatriot and roommate Omneya Abdel Kawy for a place in a second British Open final.
“It’s better when you start the match and you know that you beat your opponent last time. You get more confident.”
