Powerful Matchups Ahead in Paraguay Open

#PSAWorldTour

The main draw of the Tour de las Americas – Paraguay Open, PSA M10 tournament gets underway on Wednesday June 1, and features a multi-national field with representatives from nine countries on the first day of action.

United States No.2 Christopher Gordon begins his tournament against wildcard Nicolas Caballero as he looks to recover from his defeat in the final of the Asociacion Chaquena de Squash Tour de las Americas – Regatas Resistencia Open.

Gordon came up against Arturo Salazar in the showpiece finale, but lost out in straight games to the World No.57 and he will hope to get his hands on the title this time around.

The 29-year-old gets his tournament under way against wildcard Nicolas Caballero as he begins his ambitions to win a fourth PSA World Tour title.

Salazar is seeded number two for the event and is seeded to meet Gordon in a second successive final. His victory last week represented his first ever win over the American and he is in fine form after also lifting silverware at the Northern Open last month.

The Mexican, who hails from San Luis Potosi, opens his event against Argentine qualifier Ignacio Gutierrez, and could come up against compatriot Juan Gomez Dominguez, who takes on Leandro Romiglio, in the quarter-final.

Martin Knight of New Zealand is also among the forerunners for the crown as he bids to add a third PSA World Tour title to his 2016 tally. The experienced World No.78 has won both the Guilfoyle Financial Classic and Rochester ProAm tournaments so far this year, and also reached the final of the JBM Patrol Spring Classic in between.

Knight comes into this event off the back of a semi-final finish at the Resistencia Open, where he lost to Gordon, and he is seeded to meet the American in the last four. Knight will need to navigate a first round fixture with Juan Pablo Roude though if he is to reach the latter stages.

Eric Galvez is a dark horse for the title as he aims to end a 13-month barren spell. The Mexican’s last PSA World Tour title came at the Charlotte Open in April 2015, but he has struggled in recent months, with a solitary semi-final finish in the intervening months since his most recent triumph. Galvez cuts an experienced figure though and could make a splash in the latter stages, where he is seeded to clash with Salazar in the last four. The World No.94 will face Francesco Marcantonio in round one.
