Men’s World’s: Dessouky Eases Through To Last 16 In Qatar

World No.13 Fares Dessouky is through to the third round of the PSA Men’s World Championship after overcoming Spain’s Edmon Lopez in the final match of day two in Qatar.

The Egyptian showed no mercy to his European opponent, in what was only the second meeting between the two on the PSA World Tour, and the first in nearly five years.

Dessouky restricted Lopez to just 13 points in the entire match, and showcased his abilities throughout the contest at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.

The World No.13 won out 11-5, 11-3, 11-5 in less than 25 minutes to reach the third round, where he will face the ‘Peruvian Puma’ Diego Elias on Monday.

“I am really happy to be on Tour again. During the injury, it was not an easy period for me. You start appreciating so many things, including the sweat and how you move on court, the people who are watching, and the sport itself. It is really nice to be back,” Dessouky said.

“I am looking for enjoyment, and making the crowd enjoy the sport, so I am happy to be here again. Most of the people are waiting for this battle with Diego.

“Now, he is the higher ranked and he has now played more tournaments than me. It will be a tough a match, but I hope it goes well and it is a clean match, one that the people will enjoy.”
