The Pittsburgh Open takes place between January 22-26, and the draw has been released for the PSA World Tour Bronze tournament, held at the Rivers Club.
After a bye in the first round, reigning champion Gregoire Marche will face either Mexico’s Arturo Salazar or one of the two wildcards at the event, Botswana’s Alister Walker, in the last 16.
The Frenchman, who is currently World No.15, is seeded to face fellow European Raphael Kandra in the quarter finals, before a possible meeting with the tournament’s top seed, Fares Dessouky, in the last four. If he were to reach the final, Marche is likely to face either Zahed Salem, which would be a repeat of last year’s final, or No.2 seed Saurav Ghosal.
Egyptian World No.11 Dessouky is in the same side of the draw as the reigning champion, and he will open his tournament with a clash against an Englishman, in either Patrick Rooney or George Parker. He would then be seeded to face New Zealand’s Campbell Grayson in the quarter finals, ahead of that potential clash with Marche.
In the bottom half of the draw, 2017 champion and 2019 runner-up Zahed Salem is expected to face India’s Saurav Ghosal in the semi-finals. The Egyptian will face either compatriot Muhammed ElSherbini or American Shahjahan Khan in the second round, ahead of a possible clash with another fellow countryman, Omar Mosaad, in the last eight.
Ghosal’s run to the final could include a clash against fellow Indian Ramit Tandon, if he were to beat Nathan Lake in the first round. The World No.13 would then face Cesar Salazar in the quarters before that expected clash with Salem in the last four.
The first round will see a repeat of the 2018 final, as Hong Kong’s Max Lee takes on England’s Ben Coleman. The Englishman was unseeded in Pittsburgh two years ago, but he made it through to the final, where Lee was able to take the title after winning in straight games.
Home favourite Todd Harrity will take on India’s Mahesh Mangaonkar in the first round, and if he was to get through that tricky clash, the American will battle it out with Germany’s Raphael Kandra in the second round. The second American in the draw, Shahjahan Khan, will face Muhammed ElSherbini in the first round.
The 24 players involved in the tournament will be battling out for a share of the $47,000 prize pot on offer at the Pittsburgh Open.
