World No.2 Nouran Gohar has spoken of her delight at being nominated for both the PSA Female Player of the Year and Young Female Player of the Year in recognition of an abbreviated season that saw her claim a second major title at the US Open in October.
Speaking about the nominations Gohar said: “It is a great honour to be nominated again for the PSA Young Female Player of the Year. At 23 years-old this is the last time I am eligible for it but with Hania (El Hammamy), Aifa (Azman), Tinne (Gilis) and Rowan (Elaraby) all also nominated it will be very tough to win it for the fourth time.
“I remember when I won it for the first time when I was 17 and I was sitting at the table during the World Tour Series Finals in Dubai and I didn’t really know about the award and then they announced I’d won it and I was like I can’t believe this.
“I was top eight for the first time and 17, I think the youngest winner of the award and then to win twice more well it will always be really special to me. But everyone who is nominated is very much worth their nomination.
“To be also nominated for the senior player of the year is a funny one, as it makes me feel a bit older! But again to get that nomination and be in there with Raneem (El Welily) Nour (El Sherbini), Hania (El Hammamy), Camille (Serme), well it means I am in great company and I wish everyone who has been nominated in both awards good luck.”
