Peru’s World No.7 Diego Elias claimed his first win over Colombia’s World No.9 Miguel Rodriguez after he defeated him 11-5, 13-11, 11-9 to reach the quarter finals of the Qatar Classic.
The two South Americans played exhibition squash at times, which would have been worthy of a crowd inside the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex, but it was Elias who finally got the better of Rodriguez in their fifth PSA meeting.
Elias took the first game before Rodriguez squandered the opportunity to go level after holding game ball in the second. From then on it was too much of an uphill battle for the Colombian Cannonball as Elias was able to stay in the rallies and see out the straight games victory in 53 minutes.
"That is absolutely ridiculous, that's the best rally of the tournament!"— PSA World Tour (@PSAWorldTour) November 4, 2020

Elias will face World No.1 Ali Farag for a place in the semi-finals.
“I knew it was going to be really tough, I’ve never beaten him on PSA,” said the Peruvian.
“He’s beaten me in total probably more than 30 times, so every time I play him I know it’s going to be super hard. A lot of it is mental too, he’s a great player and I have a lot of respect for him and I’m really happy I could go through this match in three games.
“I’ve only beaten Ali [Farag] twice and he’s beaten me more than 10, so it’s a really tough match. I’ve been training hard and right now I just want to recover and be ready for tomorrow.”
