Torneo Profesional Mexicano: Avila Claims First Win Since 2019

Mexico’s Alfredo Avila was victorious on home soil at the Torneo Profesional Mexicano de Squash, as he claimed his first win in two years on the Tour.

The World No.62 came into the tournament, which was held with regional restrictions due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, as the top seed, and favourite for the title, and he did not disappoint, coming through the entire event without dropping a single game.

His campaign at ProSquash Polanco started with wins over two wildcards, in Noe Aceves and Erik Tepos Valtierra, before he then got the better of No.9 seed Alejandro Reyes to make the last four.

Avila then downed Brazilian No.3 seed Diego Gobbi in the semis, before coming up against No.2 seed David Baillargeon in the final. The Mexican overcame the Canadian in straight games to secure the 13th title of his professional career.
