New Zealand’s Paul Coll and Egypt’s Nour El Sherbini have been named the respective men’s and women’s PSA World Tour Player of the Month for August following their Allam British Open wins.
Coll made history with his victory over No.1 seed Ali Farag, becoming the first New Zealand man to win the prestigious tournament, and the first to win a major since Ross Norman in 1986.
The 29-year-old had impressed throughout his run to the final, beating then World No.1 Mohamed ElShorbagy in straight games in the semi final and doing the same to Manchester Open winner Diego Elias in the quarters.
Coll’s impressive form has seen him rise to third in the world rankings, his best ever ranking.
El Sherbini collapses to the ground after her British Open win.
For World No.1 El Sherbini, this win award represents the tenth time she has been named Player of the Month.
Despite carrying an injury into the British Open, El Sherbini was in imperious form throughout.
The 25-year-old won her first three matches at the tournament without dropping a game, before overcoming Amanda Sobhy 3-1 in the semi final.
Although for a moment it looked like fellow Egyptian and World No.2 Nouran Gohar would claim the trophy in the final, El Sherbini came from 2-1 down to seal a 3-2 win, showing her class to take the final game 11-2.
Honourable mentions also go to Diego Elias and Hania El Hammamy for their impressive Manchester Open wins.
