Both the men’s and women’s finals at the Oxford Properties Canadian Senior Championships will be contested by the No.1 and No.2 seeds after Hollie Naughton, Danielle Letourneau, David Baillargeon and Shawn DeLierre all tasted semi-final success at the Yorkdale Mall in Toronto.
Naughton continued her 100 per cent record at this year’s PSA Challenger 10 event – which also doubles up as the Canadian National Championships – as she stormed to an 11-7, 11-7, 17-15 victory against fellow Canadian Nikki Todd.
“I’m happy to get through in three,” said Naughton.
“I felt a bit tense on there and Nikki was shooting the lights out. I managed to settle myself just enough and hopefully got them all out for tomorrow.”
The World No.17 will line up against World No.19 Letourneau in the women’s title decider after Letourneau got the better of Nicole Bunyan in straight games.
Letourneau said: ”I felt very relaxed and confident on court. I was very nervous when I got here, but luckily the match before went long so I was able to settle in.
“I needed to settled in because because Nicole fought hard and I had to play my best squash to get through in three. A great perk to every win is a visit with Tim, the tournament chiropractor.”
Naughton and Letourneau will meet on the PSA Tour for the eighth time. The formbook is in Naughton’s favour, with the 27-year-old winning five of their previous seven meetings, including the last three in a row.
Men’s top seed Baillargeon will face off against DeLierre after they achieved wins over Nick Sachvie and Michael McCue, respectively.
“What a wonderful day for me,” said DeLierre.
“I came out with a good plan, sometimes I have none at all. I also seemed to have come out with racket skills today and some quite accurate execution. As the match went on, I adjusted to some confrontational bumps and grinds, learned to disassociate from confrontation, and came out with a peace treaty with myself.
“All these gems on my side led to my victory. I’m happy with today and I hope to come out learning how to play well with David tomorrow.”
They have competed on the PSA Tour just once before, with DeLierre winning 3-0 at the Goodlife Open back in 2015.
