Bangabandu Ispahani Squash Tournament: Elshafei Takes Maiden Victory

Egypt’s Yassin Elshafei was victorious at the Bangabandu Ispahani Squash Tournament in Dhaka, Bangladesh, with the No.3 seed taking out the top two seeds en route to the title.

The World No.149 started his campaign in the second round after receiving a bye through the opening day’s play. In the last 16, he got the better of India’s Jaideep Sethi, before then downing No.5 seed Rahul Baitha in straight games in the last eight.

Elshafei then came up against the tournament’s top seed, Abhishek Agarwal, in the semi-finals, and he knocked out a third Indian in succession, winning in a 61-minute four-game battle.

The final saw the young Egyptian take on Pakistan’s Noor Zaman for the title, and after losing the first game, Elshafei fought back to win the next three, claiming his maiden victory on the Tour.
