Alan Clyne is the Scottish No.1 and has represented his country at various tournaments throughout his career.
Clyne captured his first PSA World Tour title at the Merrill Lynch Pegasus Charleston Challenge in 2008 and followed that up with victory at the PSA Magdalena Squash Open the year after.
2010 saw Clyne participate in both the singles and doubles events at the Commonwealth Games. Clyne, along with partner Harry Leitch, notably stunned Peter Barker and Daryl Selby to reach the semi-final stage in the doubles event.
Clyne’s three year wait for a PSA World Tour title was ended in 2013 when he beat Martin Knight, who was playing on home-soil, to secure the Fitzherbert Rowe Lawyers New Zealand International Squash Classic, his first PSA M10 title.
He took the Garavan’s Bar Paddy Whack West of Ireland Open in April 2014 and appeared once more at the Commonwealth Games in the summer but failed to earn a medal. Clyne came incredibly close to winning his first PSA M25 title when he met Karim Abdel Gawad in the final of the Pittsburgh Open in February 2015 but the Scotsman narrowly lost out despite taking the first game.
He reached the same stage at the Costa Rica Open four months later but was again prevented from lifting the crown, this time by Peruvian Diego Elias. The Scotsman bounced back five months later though, capturing the RC Pro Series title after a hard-fought encounter with Arturo Salazar.
Clyne reached the latter stages of a tournament for the first time since that victory in 2017 when he made it to the semi-final of the Swedish Open, where he was defeated over four games against Karim Abdel Gawad.
The Scotsman then went onto win the Wimbledon Club Squash Squared Open in March that year, when he downed England’s Tom Richards comfortably over three games in the final. Clyne’s strong retrieving and consistent hitting were in full flow as he charged to a win by an 11-3, 11-9, 11-6 margin in 36 minutes to lift his eighth PSA World Tour title.
The Scot could only manage one more quarter final appearance in 2017, when he made the last eight of the HKFC International. He was knocked out by Nafiizwan Adnan. Clyne then made the quarters of the Canada Cup in 2018, before going on to reach the semi finals of the Cleveland Skating Club Open the same year.
Clyne then went on to reach the semi finals of the Springfield Scottish Squash Open on home soil, before then finishing runner-up at the Northwestern Mutual Life Time Houston Open in his first event of the 2019-2020 campaign.
The Scot recorded a quarter-final appearance at the Oracle NetSuite Open, before representing his country at the WSF Men’s World Team Squash Championships in Washington, D.C., as Scotland finished 7th, their best result at the premiere team tournament since 2001.
